An unidentified one-chance gang on Monday, attacked a pregnant woman alongside two others on board a commercial bus in Lagos.
According to Leadership, the pregnant woman and her friends were relieved of about N1.8 million by the robbers who paraded as commercial bus commuters and operators.
Modinatu Ayilara, who was among the victims, said that she boarded a mini- bus at Ketu area of the state at about 5am and was heading to Cotonou to buy jewelry for sale when the incident occurred.
Unknown to her, all other occupants of the bus were members of the gang apart from her two friends and when they had gotten close to Ojota bridge, two of the robbers pulled out their pistols and ordered them to bring out all their money or they would be killed.
“They ordered us not to make any noise as they first collected our handsets before they demanded for the money in our possession. The robbers were about six in the vehicle including two women who advised us to give the money and everything in our possession to safe our lives. They dropped us close to the Independent tunnel. Maryland, before they sped off.
“They collected N850,000 from me and my two handsets. My friend, Mama Biliki said they collected N600,000 and one handset while the other woman Mama Bose said they took N400, 000 from her, including two handsets.
“We were going to Cotonou to buy jewelry with the money. We sell at Idumota market. We live at Ketu. I had the premonition that something was about to happen. I never knew they wanted to rob us. All the money I had was stolen from me. Oh’ I’m finished,”the woman lamented.
Meanwhile, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), in Bayelsa state identified as James Onuh was recently killed by suspected cultists at Obele, a suburb of Yenagoa, the state capital.
Narrating what happened, a friend of late Onuh who identified himself as Daniel, said his friend boarded a commercial tricycle to Obele.
He said Onuh had no idea other occupants of the tricycle were cultists who were out to rob people.
“When he got to Obele junction where he wanted to alight, they confronted him and demanded his mobile handset. He resisted them. Maybe he didn’t know they were armed. As they were dragging the phone, one of them pulled out a gun and shot him,”Daniel said.
